the harmony within. About
Yoga |
Meditation is a natural state of mind. Techniques can be learned
that allow us to enter the meditative state, to restore balance to the
physiology. Meditation is one of the most powerful tools there is to help
us restore the harmony within, and to gain access to our bodies' inner
intelligence.
Forms of sitting meditative practice include: contemplation, breathing
(mindfulness) meditation, visual, or sound meditations, guided imagery
and visualization, and mantra meditation (Primordial Sound Meditation) The profound state of rest that is achieved through a meditation practice has important benefits for a wide range of health problems, and also allows the mind and body to function with maximum effectiveness. In addition to reducing stress, improving energy and stamina, studies have shown that people who regularly meditate have long-term reduction in blood pressure, and a reduced use of both prescription and non-prescription drugs. In addition to high blood pressure, doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major factor in such illnesses as depression, anxiety, cardiac pain, insomnia, diabetes, ulcers, cold, fever, asthma, arthritis and alcoholism. Research has also shown that with illnesses such as cancer, meditation stimulates the body's anabolic processes of growth and repair, and reduces the catabolic processes of decay.
